Grease Hero PLUS is an environmentally friendly storage system for used cooking oil and grease.
It’s time to end the tradition of storing your used cooking oil and grease in a tin can, glass jar or coffee can until you are ready to dispose of it. While this method made sense years ago before recycling centers were widely available, today there are better options for the environment. Those aluminum cans and glass containers can now be recycled with your city, or even upcycled, instead of tossed in the trash full of oil and grease.
Grease Hero drain guards were developed to make disposing of used cooking oil and grease quick and easy.
The Start of Grease Hero
Grease Hero drain guards were built out of a personal need—Shawn Santos, owner of multifamily rental units in Hawaii, had a recurring problem: plumbing pipes clogged with cooking fats, oils and grease that had been poured down drains; “I needed to educate tenants.” His father was a plumber and from a young age Shawn tagged along with him on his various plumbing calls, with this hands-on education he had extensive knowledge on the issues and dangers of grease-clogged pipes. “It can turn a 4-inch pipe into a 2-inch pipe.” He also knew that much of that oil ends up in Hawaii’s waterways and, eventually, the ocean through sewer overflows.
Grease Hero PLUS
Grease Hero drain guards hold approximately 4 ounces of cooking fats, oils and grease—equivalent to the amount left after cooking one pound of bacon. After launching Grease Hero into both local and national retailers, Shawn would hear from customers that they needed to store their drain guards because the meal they cooked didn’t have enough oil/grease to completely fill the drain guard. This is where the idea for Grease Hero PLUS was formed.
Grease Hero PLUS is a self-contained storage system for our drain guards in which you can securely store your Grease Hero drain guard until it is ready to be tossed out or recycled. With a lid that tightly attaches to the base, you do not have to worry about any lingering odors in your kitchen. Grease Hero PLUS is made from recycled materials and is dishwasher safe. (Grease Hero PLUS will be available starting September 2021.)
